About Jujutsu Kaisen 0:
Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the feature-length prequel to the hit anime series Jujutsu Kaisen, continues to dominate the Japanese box office weeks after its premiere. With a current gross of 9.3 billion yen (about $81.8 million), the film has surpassed the top 50 most successful Japanese films of all time. Now, the company MAPPA and TOHO Animation are aiming for a release in the United States.
Crunchyroll announced on Tuesday that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be released in cinemas in the United States and Canada on March 18, with tickets going on sale on February 25. According to a press release, the film would be shown in “more than 1500 cinemas countrywide” in both English dub and subtitled versions, including some IMAX screenings. Crunchyroll also wants to launch in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, France with CRG events, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, French-speaking Africa, and Latin America, according to Crunchyroll.
Unlike the rest of the series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 follows Yuta Okkotsu, a high school student who is taken under Satoru Gojo’s wing. The team at MAPPA developed a story that both stands alone and conjures the essence of what fans love about the ongoing anime by adapting Gege Akutami’s prequel manga. According to a Polygon review from December, it’s a good place to start for newbies while yet being action-packed enough to appeal to seasoned viewers.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Review:
Long-time fans will find enough to enjoy. For starters, Yuta Okkotsu isn’t a new character; he’s been mentioned a few times in the series but has never appeared until now. And he’s given a heartbreaking history, as it turns out that the strong Curse that has enslaved Yuta is his childhood sweetheart, Rika. The lovely and caring girl converted into a snake-haired, fang-faced horror after dying in a traffic accident.
She may not have the most terrifying design, but she makes up for it with the way she behaved. The juxtaposition of her horrifying appearance with her sweet but sometimes also capricious, child-like demeanour results in one of the most memorable Jujutsu Kaisen 0 cursed spirits ever when she talks to Yuta in a child’s voice about how much she loves him or kills people who bully him without seeming to feel bad about it.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is animated by MAPPA and directed by Sunghoo Park. For a more in-depth look at the release schedule ahead.
