Arrow Video releases June 2018 - five, including a Sartana box set

Another great collection of releases is due from Arrow in time for the first month of summer.

If you cast your mind back to frequenting the local video store in the 1980s you may remember renting (or at least glimpsing the plastic box for) Jake Speed (1986). It’s a low-budget Indiana Jones/Romancing the Stone style action-adventure starring and co-written by Wayne Crawford. It also features John Hurt in a villainous role. It gets released on Blu Ray on June 4th.

The first of two acclaimed 1980s films from New Zealand is released on Blu Ray on the following week (June 11th). Vigil (1984) features Fiona Kay as “Toss”, a young girl who becomes suspicious of a stranger who visits her family’s remote farmstead in the wake of her father’s death.

The second offering from the land of kiwis is Geoff Murphy’s The Quiet Earth (1985), which arrives on Blu Ray on June 18th. Bruno Lawrence plays a scientist who wakes up to discover that most life on Earth has been eradicated after a project which he is working on backfires. A haunting slice of 1980s science fiction.

Abel Ferrara’s arty B & W New York vampire movie, The Addiction (1995) is released on June 25th in a new 4K restoration approved by both the director and his cinematographer Ken Kelsch. Lily Taylor plays a student who gets turned into a bloodsucker. Annabella Sciorra and Christopher Walken also appear here. Love it or hate it, it’s definitely one of the idiosyncratic Ferrara’s more interesting efforts.

Last, but not least, is The Complete Sartana, a compilation of all five films featuring the iconic Spaghetti Western character which is released on June 25th. The films are *takes a deep breath*: If You Meet Sartana... Pray for Your Death, I Am Sartana, Your Angel of Death, Have a Good Funeral My Friend... Sartana Will Pay, Light the Fuse... Sartana Is Coming, and Sartana's Here... Trade Your Pistol for a Coffin. The first four feature Gianni Garko in the titular role, whereas the last one features George Hilton picking up the gun and cloak in his place. All four films receive 2K restorations.
