Frank Sidebottom The Home of the Retrospective

High Noon (1952) starring Gary Cooper Blu Ray (Eureka!)

Despite its now well-worn tropes, High Noon still holds up very well as an entertaining, well-crafted western-thriller. Grace Kelly seems a bit too meek and mild nowadays but Gary Cooper and Katy Jurado have more than enough tough resolve to make up for the shortfall.

The Last Movie (1971) dir: Dennis Hopper Blu Ray (Indicator)

Hopper's second film as director was - and, to be honest, still is - a rambling and self-indulgent mess. However, this disc is a must due to the sheer wealth of extras here, not least being an excellent Alex Cox documentary on its production.

This train-set civil war era Western, featuring Charles Bronson at his 1970s career peak, starts slowly but soon livens up with plentiful twists and some spectacular action.

A Pistol for Ringo & The Return of Ringo (1965) Blu Ray (Arrow)

Giuliano Gemma plays two unconnected Ringos in this pair of overlooked spaghetti westerns directed by Duccio Tessari. The first is highly entertaining, the second is one of the finest and most lyrical that the genre has to offer. Both films also star Fernando Sancho, George Martin, Lorella De Luca and others.
