Frank Sidebottom The Home of the Retrospective

The Virgin Soldiers (1969) starring Lynn Redgrave Blu Ray (Indicator)

Hywel Bennett plays a young British soldier on National Service in Singapore in 1951. While the threat of being killed in action hangs over him, he would clearly rather spend his time getting laid with Ms. Redgrave. A surprisingly effective mixture of ribald comedy and anti-war parable.

Shampoo (1975) Blu Ray (The Criterion Collection)

Warren Beatty plays a lothario hairdresser who juggles multiple girlfriends: Julie Christie, Goldie Hawn and Lee Grant. As farce and satire, it doesn't really work as it should but there is some amusement to be had, along with Carrie Fisher in her movie debut.

Breathless (1983) starring Richard Gere Blu Ray (Second Sight)

Jim McBride’s American remake of Jean-Luc Godard’s French arthouse classic is like daubing a cathedral with lively street art. It’s sacrilegious, to be sure, but in a way that is fascinatingly off-kilter and a hell of a lot of fun.
