Frank Sidebottom The Home of the Retrospective

Def-Con 4 (1985) dir: Paul Donovan Blu Ray (Arrow)

This low-budget apocalyptic Canadian sci-fi adventure starts out ok but then plummets down to Earth (in more ways than one) and becomes a dull Mad Max clone. It stars Lenore Zann, Maury Chaykin, Kate Lynch and Tim Choate.

Rats: Night of Terror (1984) Blu Ray (88 Films)

Bruno Mattei and Claudio Fragasso's sci-fi horror cheapie fails spectacularly in its endeavours to make rats terrifying. On the other hand, it's often accidentally hilarious and never boring. The cast, adopting anglicised pseudonyms, includes Ottaviano Dell'Acqua, Geretta Geretta and Massimo Vanni.

This post-apocalyptic Italian cheese is enjoyable if approached in the right frame of mind - and even has a few decent elements.
