Frank Sidebottom The Home of the Retrospective

True Stories (1986) Blu Ray (The Criterion Collection)

Talking Heads frontman David Byrne's first and only feature film is an interesting but somewhat uneven oddity. It looks and sounds great but comes across as being unfocused and self-consciously twee. It provided John Goodman with his first big break.

Climax (2018) dir: Gaspar Noé Blu Ray & DVD (Arrow)

Noé’s latest film is a challenging and dread-inducing depiction of human deterioration under the influence of LSD-spiked sangria. It is a breathlessly audacious piece of work but not for everyone. Starring Sofia Boutella, Romain Guillermic, Souheila Yacoub and Kiddy Smile.

Georgy Girl (1966) starring Lynn Redgrave Blu Ray (Indicator)

A visually average but personality-rich young woman finds love in this breezy and hilarious 1960s British New Wave comedy-drama. Some dated attitudes don't spoil the fun here. Also starring Alan Bates, James Mason and Charlotte Rampling.

The Producers (1967) dir: Mel Brooks Blu Ray (Studiocanal)

Mel Brooks's directorial debut is a somewhat overrated comedy which places too much emphasis on loud, dated stereotypes. Nonetheless, it's worth making your way through to the last half hour, with its Springtime for Hitler musical number and Dick Shawn's hilarious performance as L.S.D.

The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953) Blu Ray & DVD (Indicator)

Not entirely successful, but so wildly unusual it has to be experienced.

The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T has colourful production and costume design
