Last Hurrah for Chivalry & Hand of Death: Two Films by John Woo Blu Ray (Eureka!)

These two early wuxia (period martial arts) adventures from the iconic John Woo offer some fun but don't exactly count amongst the director's best. Hand of Death is also notable for featuring an early appearance by the Three Brothers - Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao.

Wheels on Meals (1984) dir: Sammo Hung Blu Ray (Eureka!)

The so-called Three Brothers - Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Baio - team up for this kung fu action-comedy set in Barcelona. While it's not their best outing, it's still plenty of fun. Both the car chase and climactic castle fight are fabulous setpieces.

Once Upon a Time in China Trilogy Blu Ray (Eureka!)

This boxed set contains four episodes of Tsui Hark's 1990s cycle of adaptations of the life and times of legendary Chinese physician, martial artist and folk hero Wong Fei-hung. Jet Li plays the central character and shows his stuff in a range of spectacular action sequences.

Jackie Chan's Project A & Project A Part II Blu Ray (Eureka!)

The Hong Kong superstar is at his absolute finest in this pair of period action adventures. The first film is more consistent and features welcome appearances by his fellow dragons Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, whereas the second is more ambitious and spectacular.

City Hunter (1993) starring Jackie Chan Blu Ray (Eureka!)

This oddity, based on a Japanese manga of the same name, is one which seems to divide Chan fans. If you click with its cartoony tone, however, then you'll appreciate the wonderful homages to Bruce Lee and Street Fighter II. Also starring Joey Wong, Richard Norton and Gary Daniels.

Jackie Chan's Police Story & Police Story 2 Blu Ray (Eureka!)

This duet of 1980s Hong Kong action-comedy classics shows today’s cosseted, CGI-enhanced modern action stars how it’s done. Expect plenty of death-defying stunts, some outtakes featuring the actual resulting injuries and quite a bit of Buster Keaton-style comedy too.

Iron Monkey (1993) dir: Yuen Woo-Ping Blu Ray (Eureka!)

Yu Rong-Kwong plays the titular Robin Hood-style hero in this classic wuxia which revolves around the childhood of Chinese martial artist Wong Fei-Hong. The plentiful action is exhilaratingly wild yet gracefully choreographed, while the occasional moments of character are crafted with a genuine poignancy.

The Super Inframan (1975) Blu Ray (88 Films)

This Shaw Brothers-produced homage to the Japanese tokusatsu superhero subgenre makes up for its rubbery monsters and lack of characterisation with well-staged fights and tonnes of imagination.
