Frank Sidebottom The Home of the Retrospective

Death Line (1972) starring Donald Pleasance Blu Ray (Network)

Mind the doors! If you can buy the implausible premise of cannibals descended from former London Tube construction workers, then this intelligent and gruesome horror is for you. Donald Pleasance gives an enjoyable, eccentric performance as the determinedly working class police inspector on the case.

Cannibal Ferox (1981) Blu Ray (Shameless Films)

Umberto Lenzi's Amazon-set cannibal exploitation flick has some nauseatingly convincing gore effects and an imaginative score but little else to recommend it. Shameless's extras (including frank interviews with Lenzi and actor Giovanni Lombardo Radice) partially redeem the overall package.

Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) Blu Ray (Indicator)

Joseph L. Mankiewicz's controversial adaptation of Tennessee Williams' play of homosexuality and lobotomies heavily emphasises words to paint pictures, yet still manages to be impressively cinematic.
