EIFF 2019: Ever After (2018) dir: Carolina HellsgÄrd

Despite having its share of gruesome moments, this German take on the zombie apocalypse subgenre comes closer in tone to Andrei Tarkovsky than to George Romero. It's a beautiful, haunting and poetic examination of guilt and the inherent value of human life.

The first instalment of a two-parter featuring the two 'talents' behind The Room (2003) is a strange mix of self-aware deliberate badness and flashes of legitimately good artfulness. As you might expect, the highlights here are provided by Wiseau's in(s)ane performance.
